Island Styles is a composer, multi-instrumentalist, producer, and sound designer. Recently, Island’s work received Academy recognition as the composer and sound designer for the live-action short "The Singers" (SXSW 2025), which earned a 2026 Oscar® nomination.

Driven by a deep passion for storytelling through music, Island channels his broad musical experience into the world of media composition. Most notably, Island composes for film - recent works include the documentary "I Need You: 53 Years of the Band America," which premiered at the 2025 Newport Beach Film Festival; the Oscar®-nominated short film "The Singers," which premiered at the 2025 SXSW Film Festival; and the upcoming Candlebox documentary "Far Behind" (2025). Other interactive projects include the video game "Oceans" (2022) and the digital board game "Evolution" (2019), both of which Island scored.

Moreover, Island has a rich history in the rock music scene. Best known for his dynamic guitar work with multi-platinum selling band Candlebox and 90’s post-grunge favorite Jimmie's Chicken Shack, Island has established himself as a versatile and skilled musician. His career has also included significant collaborations, such as touring and recording with singer Terry McDermott of NBC's "The Voice," as well as performing alongside notable acts like Bush, Shinedown, Alice in Chains, Katy Perry, and Rascal Flatts.

Throughout his extensive career, Island has demonstrated a deep understanding of diverse musical landscapes, from hard-hitting rock anthems to rich orchestral soundscapes. This broad experience as a performer, collaborator, and composer has honed his ability to craft compelling and varied sonic textures and understand the emotional power of music - skills he now directly applies to his work in media composition. Based in the Los Angeles area, Island is dedicated to bringing his seasoned musicality and creative vision to a variety of visual and interactive projects.
