Island Styles is a composer, multi-instrumentalist, producer, and sound designer. Recently, Island’s work received Academy recognition as the composer and sound designer for the live-action short "The Singers" (SXSW 2025), which won an Oscar® at the 2026 Academy Awards.

Driven by a passion for narrative-led composition, Island has quickly become a sought-after voice in film and interactive media. His recent film credits include the documentary I Need You: 53 Years of the Band America (Newport Beach Film Festival 2025) and the upcoming Candlebox documentary Far Behind (2025). His versatility extends into the gaming world, where he composed the immersive scores for the video game Oceans (2022) and the digital board game Evolution (2019).

Before transitioning to media composition, Island established a prolific career in the rock music scene. Best known as the lead guitarist for multi-platinum band Candlebox and post-grunge staples Jimmie's Chicken Shack, his career is defined by high-profile collaborations and global tours alongside acts such as Bush, Shinedown, Alice in Chains, Katy Perry, and Rascal Flatts.

Throughout his extensive career, Island has demonstrated a deep understanding of diverse musical landscapes, ranging from visceral contemporary textures to rich orchestral soundscapes. This broad experience as a performer and collaborator is uniquely informed by his expertise in sound design, which he integrates into his scores to blur the lines between music and atmosphere. Based in the Los Angeles area, Island is dedicated to bringing his seasoned musicality and creative vision to a variety of visual and interactive projects.
